AI Hyperarousal Syndrome
Can your nervous system switch off after AI?
A lens, not a label.
Productivity does not always tell us how a person is feeling. AIHS is a proposed lens for exploring the human experience of intensive AI use, especially the transition from sustained engagement to recovery.
Keep the evidence in view.
ProposedThe AIHS framework was developed by Julia Worrall, RN. The report describes a proposed neurological and autonomic dysregulation framework associated with sustained, high-frequency AI interaction. Full peer-reviewed case data, biometric results and refined outcomes are pending. It is not an established diagnosis, and the project’s questionnaires do not diagnose it. [1,2]

Developed by Julia Worrall, RN. The executive report describes this five-phase clinical intervention framework on page 16. Peer-reviewed trial data and refined treatment outcomes are pending. This educational summary is not a personal treatment plan.
01 · Nervous System Stabilization
Structured digital fasting/notification-free blocks, an evening screen curfew and a device-free morning period.
02 · Airway & Breathing Restoration
Nasal and diaphragmatic breathing retraining plus postural correction for prolonged device use.
03 · Nervous System Recalibration
HRV biofeedback, coherent breathing, vagal-regulation work, structured nature exposure and, within Julia’s framework, controlled cold exposure.
04 · Cognitive Architecture Rebuilding
Mono-tasking, deep-work scheduling and analogue creative activity to rebuild sustained attention and executive control.
05 · Environmental Redesign
Circadian light management, device-free spaces and deliberate periods of sensory reduction including silence, darkness and stillness.

Observation, without a label.
These patterns are described in the executive report. They do not establish a diagnosis or prove that AI is the cause.
- 01Difficulty disengaging or racing, repetitive thought loops.
- 02Fragmented attention and notification hypervigilance.
- 03Delayed sleep or physical tension during prolonged use.
- 04Reduced enjoyment of non-digital activity.
